June 2009 Bank of America Foundation Awards MetroBroward $5,000 Grant MetroBroward was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Bank of America Foundation. May 2009 MetroBroward Welcomes John W. Brown of Regions Bank to Board of Directors MetroBroward is pleased to welcome John W. Brown, Vice President and Community Affairs Manager at Regions Bank to its Board of Directors. John was a top flight small business banker prior to becoming the Community Affairs Manager and lends his knowledge of small business services to the Board. Welcome, John.
March 2009 MetroBroward Establishes the Lighthouse Award for Small Business Support Industry MetroBroward has established the Lighthouse Award to pay tribute to its fellow small business support organizations in the south Florida region. The award includes a plaque and a $500 grant to four noteworthy organizations. The inaugural event was sponsored by National City and Comerica Banks and held at the National City Bank in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The 2009 Awardees were (1) Northwest Pompano CRA Loan Fund for Small Business Lending; (2) Minority Enterprised Development Corporation (Miami) for Small Business Technical Assistance; (3) Enterprise Development Corporation (Boca) for Small Business Incubation and (4) The Minority Builders Coalition of Broward County for Small Business Mentoring.
December 2008 MetroBroward Receives $20,000 Grant from Citi Foundation The Citi Foundation has awarded MetroBroward a $20,000 grant to support its small business services program. This is the second award from Citi and MetroBroward will be invited to apply for another award in 2009. MetroBroward wishes to thank Barbara Romani and Ramon Rodriguez for being great partners and champions for small business success in south Florida.
September 2008 MetroBroward Receives $500,000 State of Florida Grant MetroBroward was awarded a $500,000 grant from the State of Florida's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development (OTTED) to make loans to small minority owned businesses in Broward County. MetroBroward has participated in this program since its inception and has made loans totaling over $4MM from its revolving loan fund.
November 2007 MetroBroward Service Area Expanded MetroBroward's small business service area has been expanded beyond Broward County and now includes Collier and Lee Counties. The company's recent recertification as a Florida Black Business Investment Corporation (BBIC) included the expansion of its service territory. Staff will meet with economic development / small business development leaders in the new counties to establish a market presence.
October 2007 Citi Foundation Awards MetroBroward a $10,000 Grant MetroBroward received a $10,000 grant from City Foundation which is funded by Citibank, CitiFinancial, Primerica, Citi Smith Barney and Banamex. The grant will be used to fund the small business technical assistance services that MetroBroward provides as a free service to small businesses.
September 2007 Wachovia Awards MetroBroward a $10,000 Grant Keith Bell, Director of Community Development at Wachovia and a MetroBroward Board Member, presented MetroBroward with a $10,000.00 grant to support its small business support initiatives. Wachovia is a founding funder of MetroBroward.
December 2006 Comerica Bank Invests In MetroBroward Carol Molnar, Board Member and Florida CRA Director for Comerica Bank, presented MetroBroward with a $350,000.00 line of credit for its revolving loan fund. Comerica Bank is a generous supporter of the programs and initiatives offered in the Entrepreneurial Institute at MetroBroward.
November 1, 2006 Florida Power and Light and Shutts & Bowen Lead Gala Host Committee Lynn Shatas, Area Manager for Florida Power and Light and Sidney Calloway, Esq., Partner with Shutts & Bowen LLP will lead the host committee for the 2007 Annual Safari to Success Gala. The 2007 Gala will be held June 23, 2007 at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida and is expected to attract 1,000 guests who will "Escape to India". September 26, 2006 MetroBroward Adds Three Board Members The MetroBroward Board of Directors is pleased to announce the addition of three new directors: Gregory S. Daniel, Vice President of Corporate Banking with Commercebank of Florida; Danny Santivasci, Community Development Officer with BankUnited; and Elbert "Bert" Waters, JD, Director of the Broward Office of The South Florida Water Management District.
