MetroBroward Service Area Expanded
MetroBroward's small business service area has been expanded beyond Broward County and now includes Collier and Lee Counties. The company's recent recertification as a Florida Black Business Investment Corporation (BBIC) included the expansion of its service territory. Staff will meet with economic development / small business development leaders in the new counties to establish a market presence.

October 2007
Citi Foundation Awards MetroBroward a $10,000 Grant
MetroBroward received a $10,000 grant from City Foundation which is funded by Citibank, CitiFinancial, Primerica, Citi Smith Barney and Banamex. The grant will be used to fund the small business technical assistance services that MetroBroward provides as a free service to small businesses.

Wachovia Awards MetroBroward a $10,000 Grant
Keith Bell, Director of Community Development at Wachovia and a MetroBroward Board Member, presented MetroBroward with a $10,000.00 grant to support its small business support initiatives. Wachovia is a founding funder of MetroBroward.

Comerica Bank Invests In MetroBroward
Carol Molnar, Board Member and Florida CRA Director for Comerica Bank, presented MetroBroward with a $350,000.00 line of credit for its revolving loan fund. Comerica Bank is a generous supporter of the programs and initiatives offered in the Entrepreneurial Institute at MetroBroward.

Florida Power and Light and Shutts & Bowen Lead Gala Host Committee
Lynn Shatas, Area Manager for Florida Power and Light and Sidney Calloway, Esq., Partner with Shutts & Bowen LLP will lead the host committee for the 2007 Annual Safari to Success Gala. The 2007 Gala will be held June 23, 2007 at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Florida and is expected to attract 1,000 guests who will "Escape to India". Community Foundation of Broward Awards Civic Engagement Grant
The Entrepreneurial Institute at MetroBroward was awarded a Civic Engagement Grant from the Community Foundation of Broward County for a project entitled "Community Commerce Academies". The primary objective of the project is to educate, empower and engage citizens to become active participants in the decisions that are made regarding commercial enterprise within their communities.

The Entrepreneurial Institute at MetroBroward celebrated small business success by honoring 6 of its clients that have achieved remarkable entreprneurial achievements at its Annual Safari to Success Gala. Next year's gala will be held June 23, 2007.

Entreprise Florida has accepted the MetroBroward Technology Enterprise Center as a member of its SBIR/STTR (Small Business Innovative Research / Small Business Technology Transfer) Phase 0 Program. Watch for two Comcast Newsmakers (www.newsmakerssouthflorida.com) segments in September 2005 that will feature MetroBroward. The first segment highlights the Technology Enterprise Center and the second segment highlights MetroBroward's contribution to the growth of African American women owned businesses in Florida. Florida is second in the nation with the largest number of businesses owned by African American women.
