TECHNOLOGY COMMERCIALIZATION ASSISTANCE

The MetroBroward Small Business Enterprise Center in partnership with Enterprise Florida offers a new SBIR/STTR (Small Business Innovative Research / Small Business Technology Transfer) "Phase 0" program to assist technology companies improve their chances of receiving a Phase 1 SBIR/STTR award. Technology companies will receive a Technology Fit and Innovativeness Assessment for only $250.00 and have the possibility of receiving up to a $2,500.00 award for proposal development if approved.

Company Qualifications:

  • Resident or non-resident of MetroBroward Small Business Enterprise Center
  • Company is in the process of or has executed a license, option to license, or other formal agreement with a participating Florida University through its Technology Transfer Office, and
  • In the past 5 years has not received a Phase 1 award.
Company Actions:
  • Submit a SBIR/STTR "Phase 0" application along with a nonrefundable $250.00 participation fee.
Company Receives:
  • A Technology Fit and Innovativeness Assessment completed by the Lytmos Group, LLC.
  • Company is provided the complete Technology Fit and Innovativeness Assessment
  • Value of the assessment is approximately $600.00.
If a "Phase 0" Award is approved:
  • Company receives a full Technology Fit and Innovativeness Assessment valued at $600.00
  • Plus the company will receive up to $2500.00 for any of the following:
    • Consulting fee supporting technology development and/or commercialization strategies
    • Other professional fees (e.g. legal, accounting) directly related to the project
    • Services of a professional for writing, word processing, proof-reading and/or editing
    • Travel expenses incurred to visit the federal agency or laboratory potentially sponsoring the technology, or to attend regional or national SBIR/STTR conferences
    • Reproduction of the proposal and preparation materials
    • Other fees directly related to preparing the proposal, including fees for market studies or technical research.

    • Note: Employee salaries are not allowable expenses.
If a "Phase 0" Grant is not rewarded:
  • The Company has invested a small amout of resources (time and funds) and receives the full Technology Fit and Innovativeness Assessment valued at $600.00

  • Company invests a small amount of time and financial resources resulting in a full Technology Fit and Innovativeness Assessment valued at $600.00.
  • Possible award of up to $2,500 grant to move the project to the next level of commercialization.
